Puritan Belief

The Puritans are the men of God who started in the 16th century building on the purity of the gospel message that Salvation is by Grace alone.

I AM HE

All these scriptures have one thing in common. Can you pick it?

Moses in Exodus
I am that i am"The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Exodus 3:13

New Testament
"I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM HE, ye shall die in your sins" John 8:24

"When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I AM HE" John 8:28

"Verily verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM" John 8:58

Arresting Jesus
"Jesus saith unto them, I AM HE .... As soon then as he had said unto them, I AM HE they went backward, and fell to the ground" John 18:5-6

The One Thing All these scriptures have in common is this:
They are all about the one true God of the first commandment.
"The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord Our God Is One Lord, And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart ..." Mark 12:29-30 Jesus

For the first commandment is about the Great I AM of the Old Testament and the New Testament namely --> JESUS <--

Hey PB,

Great post. That's the reason why it was so blasphemous for Jesus. His saying, "I AM" was telling the Pharisees that He was God. That's why they fell to the ground.

It's all about Jesus isn't it? The name above every name.

Good reminder!

"I AM WHAT I AM" - The words that express ABSOLUTE, and unchanging and and eternal BEING that God has always been, the God almighty.

An absolute name that speaks what HE is in himself. That explains he is self-existent, He has being of himself, and has no dependence upon any other.

Also, Jesus called Himself the “Son of God” --- that is, the same nature of God. A son is of the same nature, the same species, the same essence, as his father. Jesus called God his Father --- John 10:30 I and my Father are one.

And “whoever has seen me has seen my Father”

Jesus is the only true God. John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Thank you PURITAN for this reminder. We should put our faith in one TRUE GOD. Jesus Christ.

btw, I added you too to my blog list. I'll be now one of your regular reader. It's good to learn spiritually from other Christian like you.

God bless you.

It is prety amazing soldiers armed to the teeth approaching an un-armed man and upon saying I AM HE they all similtaneously drew back and fell to the ground. This would have been the power of His Spirit. The Father in Christ being revealed against their hardened hearts. I always get amazed when I read this scripture.

Yes Gordon the only true name of the Lord on High through whom all things were created. - Jesus -

Great verse.

Thanks for your kind words.

And “whoever has seen me has seen my Father”

John 14 is so great to read and just believe. So many people try and explain it away even Philip tried to.

"He who has seen me has seen the Father"
For the fullness of the Father was in the person Christ reconciling the world unto himself. Collosions 2:9 & Corinthians

How can anyone ask to be shown the Father when Christ has been revealed to them from heaven?

When a new babe (born again) cries out Abba Father which name do they cry out on -- JESUS -- For the Father has been revealed to them in Christ. A new babe never asks to be shown the Father.

Hey PB,

You're correct. I was mistaken. I was thinking about Mark 14:62...

Then Jesus answered, "I am; and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven...At that the high priest tore his garments and said, "What further need have we of witnesses?"
