Puritan Belief

The Puritans are the men of God who started in the 16th century building on the purity of the gospel message that Salvation is by Grace alone.

The Spirit Lifts Up Jesus

...the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, ... that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. Phil 1:19-20
Jesus said of this Spirit: "HE WILL BRING GLORY TO ME" Jn 16:14

The Spirit Lifts Up Jesus
The Spirit which we are given is called the Spirit of Jesus Christ. We know and recognise this Spirit because in all things He magnifies the risen Lord Jesus Christ. For our boast is in Jesus alone.

"... how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:" 1 Cor 1:26

Given to Babes but hidden from the Wise Man
The bible is not for the interpretation of the wise and learned for Jesus says "thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes" We know the Spirit of Truth simply because He exalts Jesus to the highest position. Our Measuring Stick. (Thanks canigetsomelove)

A doctrine, spirit or interpretation of the bible that does not do this is FALSE.

Unity
Our fellowship and Unity is with those who have this same Spirit. Those who have the testimony of Jesus and no one else who would be an idol.

"and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Rev 19:10

i love this ...

I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

This keeps me humble!

i rekon that all our trying to explain God is going to go out the window when we see Christ face to face ...

cor 13
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

1 John 5:6
This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

PB,

Jesus knew and said that the Scriptures predicted He would come. The Scriptures always testify of Christ and His majesty. Jesus is in the Old Testament concealed, in almost every event and cirtainly every Jewish religious observance. Jesus is in the New Testament as the Messiah revealed.

John 5:39 - "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me."

Good post PB, as Christians we must always have glorifying Christ as our primary aim in all things, even and I guess especially the mundane.

hey magi, i definately agree...its the small things we do everyday that count...the thoughts, the attitudes, faith and character...to glorify jesus christ

Hey, the verse you used to prove that the scripture backs up christ ( i believe this 100%)...John 5:39 -40 says

39You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

i just thought it was essential that we dont put full stops where the sentances keep going... :) The point to this verse was the last line... u prob know that, but i thought it was interesting that the jews could memorize probably the whole scriptures yet they missed christ completely! its crazy hey

take care

thanks for the edit to my poor quoting of scripture.

I actually meant to put ... rather than a single full stop. Jesus is the only way to Life. It is not so much the 'duty' of a Christian to exalt HIm but the very acceptance and realisation of the incredible sacrifice He made for my sin prompts gratitude. HE saved me, I owe Him my life.
